    Altered IP addresses and some aspects of Host names, to follow the conventions set down in Ian Jeffray's networking website: http://www.jeffray.freeuk.com/. Thanks to Jérôme Mathevet for pointing out the potential problems of using the original IP addresses.

    Uploaded above alterations, along with this update log.
  • 24/03/00:
    Altered some of the !Internet v4 !Configure and !Startup files, in order to replace specific IP address for the RISC OS machine with the system variable: <Inet$EtherIPAddr>. This means if the computer's IP address needs to be changed, only the Hosts file has to be altered. More thanks to J&#233;r&#244;me Mathevet for suggesting this method.
  • 24/03/00:
    Altered PPPServ configuration to use Host names instead of direct IP addresses. Also altered Routes configuration for !Internet v5
  • 29/03/00:
    Altered null modem cable diagram, linking pins 1 and 6 on each plug, instead of linking pins 1 and 4 on alternate plugs. Also included full size copies for downloading.
  • 31/03/00:
    Uploaded a step-by-step guide for the Dual Dial-Up Adapter Method, in the Network Security Issues section. This method is based upon experimentation by me, in order to stop my shared drives being visible over the internet.
  • 12/04/00:
    Uploaded a guide for using a RISC OS computer as a network time server. Also uploaded Internet v4 stack and System modules, which are available for download.
  • 15/04/00:
    Uploaded a guide for connecting a RISC OS computer to a Linux computer. Thanks to J&#233;r&#244;me Mathevet for providing the details of how to do it.
  • 12/05/00:
    Uploaded instructions for activating the PPP module for user's of Internet v5, which are ammended to the Internet v5 instructions.

    Uploaded instructions for activating the PPP modules for user's of Internet v4, which are ammended to the Internet v4 instructions.

    Uploaded instructions for linking two RISC OS computers together, using Omnicient and Samba Server.

    Altered the main menu, to reflect the change from Windows specific connection instructions to a multi-format content.

    Ammended instructions to the RISC OS peer to peer networking guide, regarding the use of the FTP protocol for file sharing.

    Fairly major 'behind the scenes' revamp, namely replacing almost all screenshots, pictures etc. with gif versions. This has effectively halved the download size of the images.
  • 08/08/00:
    Replaced email contact address on index page with a dedicated new page.
  • 20/08/00:
    Started work on major revamp of website, changing visual format to a 'frame-esque' look.
  • 13/04/01:
    Added a page on the subject of other low cost networking options: Using the parallel port. You can find a link to this new page in the Serial Networking:Pros and Cons section or use the following link.
  • 31/12/01:
    • Added information regarding serial port modules needed under RISC OS 3.1 and the design variation in the serial port in pre-A5000 RISC OS machines. Thanks to Bryan Wells for pointing out these ommisions.
    • Clarified the function of Samba Server and Omniclient. Thanks to Nathan of VOTI for pointing out that one.
    • Added some further PPPServ configuration information. Thanks to Julian P for the feedback.
  • 28/10/03:
    • Changed link to Networking FAQ website which used to belong to Ian Jeffray. Thanks to Matthew Pye for letting me know that he is now hosting the site.

    • Removed homepage link to old version of this website since this is now deleted.

  • 11/03/04:
    • Added instructions for making a serial connection to a Windows 2000/XP PC. This will be the last update I will make to this website unless there is a problem with the existing material or someone can give me a very good reason to write some new material!
